Artistic Philosphy
Ideas evolve through experimentation. Materials become metaphor. Stories emerge through discovery.
I believe art is a process of discovery. As an experimental artist, I begin with an underdetermined outcome, allowing intuition, process, and materials to guide the work rather than pursuing a predetermined conclusion. Meaning arrives through the making.
Rather than simply illustrating an idea, I enter into a conversation with it. Working across two- and three-dimensional forms allows one material, image, or unexpected change to lead to the next. The visible evidence of that search is an essential part of the finished work.
My work evolves in cycles of growth, erosion, adaptation, and endurance. I see transformation as an ongoing process of becoming, shaped by curiosity and a willingness to change direction.
I do not want the work to offer a single fixed answer. I want it to create a place where viewers can slow down, see metaphorically, and bring their own memories and interpretations into the story. Art becomes a conversation when discovery remains open to both artist and viewer.
Artist Statement
My work explores transformation, resilience, and the human capacity for change.
Working across painting, sculpture, mixed media, drawing, photography, found objects, and installation, I create visual narratives inspired by the environment, everyday life, and the materials themselves.
I begin with curiosity rather than a fixed conclusion. Through layering, carving, joining, concealing, and revealing, I follow the materials and allow meaning to emerge through the making. Familiar forms and symbols become metaphors for what we carry, what we release, and who we are becoming.
The cycles of the Sonoran Desert - growth, erosion, adaptation, endurance, and renewal - deeply influence my work. These processes mirror the human experience and my continuing interest in identity, memory, struggle, and transformation.
My work invites viewers to look beyond the literal, enter the story through their own experiences, and discover connections that may continue beyond the artwork itself.
